This year’s Pink Shirt Day theme is “Lift Each Other Up”.

Today our diversity is becoming more visible than ever as people continue to embrace their cultures, identities, and true selves in more open and direct ways; making the need to “Lift Each Other Up” and have greater acceptance, respect, and inclusion for everyone so important. – pinkshirtday.ca

Pink Shirt Day is one of several initiatives occurring annually in Bluewater to actualize the board’s strategic priority of ensuring a safe supportive learning community that works together to support wellness, and fosters the strengths, contributions, and overall health of students and staff.

The story of this annual tradition stems from 2007 and involves two male students at a secondary school in Nova Scotia, who stood up to homophobic bullying in a very creative and unique way!  Upon witnessing a fellow male student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, the two boys went on a shopping spree to buy pink shirts to hand out to everyone at the school to wear in protest.  Since that time, Pink Shirt Day has become a globally recognized occasion.

Members of our school communities are invited to share their Pink Shirt Day photos with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter by tagging @BluewaterDSB.

Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
