Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 is an opportunity to collectively stand against bullying and demonstrate a commitment to safe, accepting, inclusive, and equitable schools, work sites, and communities.
This year’s theme of “Let Kindness Grow” speaks to the importance of cultivating kindness in our communities. We all play an important role in our every day gestures and interactions in honouring this theme to support our own and others’ well-being.
The beginnings of Pink Shirt Day can be traced back to Nova Scotia in 2007 when two teenage boys handed out pink shirts at their school to protest a bullying incident they witnessed involving a new Grade 9 student. The boy was being taunted by a few other students for wearing a pink shirt. The school wide response to the incident has caught on across Canada and in other parts of the world with Pink Shirt Day now recognized annually.
Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) students, staff, families, and others in our communities are invited to wear pink on February 26 as a show of solidarity in standing up to all forms of bullying. Feel free to tag BWDSB on social media with ‘pink’ photos: @BluewaterDSB
