The colours of the rainbow burst vibrantly at the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) Education Centre as almost 100 students from across the board and teachers attended this year's Rainbow Student Conference on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Many of the Grades 9 to 12 students, along with some of their Grades 7 and 8 peers, are members of Gender Sexuality Alliance groups in their schools. The day featured several engaging and interactive workshops in safe spaces, including a dance party, self-expression through arts and crafts, drama games, outdoor activities, a student-led session, and a chance for reflection. Special guest presenter Tyler Boyle inspired and encouraged attendees through his heartfelt message of self-love and acceptance, which detailed his personal journey and lessons learned. Tyler's educational background combined with his infectious energy, enthusiasm, and expertise in the area of self-reflection and meditation resonated with those who came to hear him speak.
Held annually during or close to Pride Month, the Rainbow Student Conference exemplifies BWDSB's mission to provide a quality educational experience for every student in a safe and inclusive environment. Events in which students can actively participate and see themselves reflected reaffirms the BWDSB belief that the student voice is an essential component of board wide planning and everyday work.
