Over the course of a year, the volunteers from the Owen Sound Repair Café organized by the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team, in partnership with the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, have fixed, restored, and rejuvenated over 33 sewing machines for the Arts and Crafts program this year at Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS).
Tired and worn-out sewing machines now have new life thanks to Murray, Ann, and Steve, and all volunteers of the Repair Café! So many students will once again be able to learn the basics of sewing and foster other creative projects with the fixed and donated machines. Each year, there can be almost 180 students in the program! It is reassuring to see that students are still drawn to opportunities to develop hands-on skills and creative outlets in this digital age.
These volunteers have shown great dedication to public education by donating their time and skill. The staff and students at OSDSS are incredibly grateful.
