A new generation of local young scientists is providing us with a glimpse into a promising future!  The Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair returned to an in-person format, the first since 2019, as Bluewater District School Board students joined their peers from across Bruce and Grey counties to showcase their innovative scientific creations.

Held over two days, April 5 (Senior Fair – Grades 7 to 12) and April 12 (Junior Fair – Grades 4 to 6), Owen Sound’s Bayshore Community Centre was transformed into an amazing exhibition of diverse and uniquely intriguing projects.  From horticulture and agriculture, to the environment, energy, food consumption, social media, and everything in between, judges had a tough job evaluating the approximately 220 entries to determine the recipients of gold, silver, and bronze medals, and sponsored awards.

Several criteria are taken into consideration by the judges, including the level of accuracy and originality demonstrated in each project, and the student’s responses regarding the science behind their creation, how they arrived at their conclusion, and other factors.  Students were able to submit their projects individually or as a team of two.

A highlight of the senior event was the selection of Team Bluewater, the six students who will move on to compete at Canada Wide Science Fair 2023 in Edmonton, Alberta from May 14 to 19.

It is through the dedicated support, and countless hours and contributions of many passionate volunteers, sponsors, school staff, and parents/guardians that this longstanding event is able to continue and provide invaluable opportunities for local students.

Congratulations to all students who participated, the medal and award recipients, and those advancing to the nationals!
