Two adult workshop facilitators wearing traditional Indigenous clothingSt. Edmunds Public School in Tobermory recently hosted a Survival in the Bush workshop thanks to Indigenous resource and experiential learning funding through the Ministry of Education.

"Thank you" is extended to Gino and Jennifer from Survival in the Bush for sharing their teachings with students and staff to further learning on Indigenous history and culture, and to Isla for the added support. The facilitators talked about the fur trade with samples on hand for all to see, shared a traditional story ("Walking to Manitoulin"), and showcased many cultural pieces, including clothing, flint and bone knives, pouches, drums, and other trade items. Students also had an opportunity to make a feather pendant and leather pouch!

Learning about Indigenous culture is an important step in appreciating this essential and rich part of our history, while continuing our reconciliation efforts.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
