On Friday, May 16, 2025, we celebrate World Education Support Personnel Day!
This unique occasion was launched in 2018 to endorse a declaration on the rights and status of education workers, calling for its application worldwide.
In Bluewater District School Board, our many exceptional education workers span several employee groups, all of whom support our students in vitally important ways through the different skill sets and expertise they bring to our schools and work sites.
Our Educational Support Professionals include educational assistants, early childhood educators, child and youth workers, outdoor education specialists, and sign language acquisition student support workers. They provide direct support to students and are foundational to learning, growth, and development.
Our Office Professionals and Technicians span a wide list of school office and system support staff, whose positions provide frontline support and/or behind the scenes duties that keep our schools and work sites running smoothly. They are often referred to as the unsung heroes in our buildings.
Professional Student Services Personnel include our behaviour expertise and behaviour intervention professionals, communication disorder assistants, mental health leaders and workers, speech language pathologists, student support attendance counsellors, and psychological services staff. Their specialized expertise assists our students with special needs as well as those facing challenges along their educational journey.
Canadian Union of Public Employees staff are our many custodians and maintenance workers, who are responsible for the safety, cleanliness, upkeep, and functioning of our facilities so that our students and staff can learn and work each day. These workers are instrumental to the well-being of our school and work environments.
Please join us to thank and celebrate our amazing education workers in Bluewater, who are essential in supporting the growth and development of all our students. While we honour them on World Education Support Personnel Day, it is crucial that they are recognized all year round for their hard work and dedication to the growth and success of our students. We encourage all members of our Bluewater school communities – students, staff, families, and others across Bruce and Grey counties – to join us in celebrating the valuable contributions of our education workers.
