Topic 1: Literacy and Mathematics

Presenter(s)/Facilitator(s): School Administrators, and central system teachers

Description: Elementary educators of kindergarten through Grade 2 will attend a virtual session hosted by central system staff to understand the principles and requirements of Early Reading Screening. Elementary educators in Grades 3 to 8 will develop their understanding of the Science of Writing in the junior and intermediate grades focusing on the revised Grade 1-8 Language curriculum. Elementary educators will explore using high impact instructional strategies to support all learners in the mathematics classroom, and to expand their own mathematics content knowledge.

Focusing on the new de-streamed Grade 9 English course, secondary teachers will recognize opportunities to support language and English development in the secondary classroom and develop their understanding of the Science of Writing. Mathematics teachers will continue to explore how best to support all learners in the de-streamed Grade 9 mathematics classrooms with an emphasis on planning and assessment.

Topic 2: Curriculum Implementation

Description: All elementary teachers will continue their learning related to the mathematics, and language curriculums.

Secondary teachers will meet in subject specific groups to focus on new and recently revised curriculum including: Grade 9 Geography, Grade 9-10 Business Studies, Grade 9-10 Technological Education, and mental health updates to Grade 10 Careers Studies.

Topic 3: Mental Health, Cell Phones and Vaping

Presenter(s)/Facilitator(s): School Administrators, Ministry resources

Description: Elementary and secondary educators will learn how best to support students with prevalent medical conditions. All educators will develop their understanding of the impacts of cellphones and vaping on student learning, and understand the policy and procedure related to misuse. Teachers will be provided with a variety of ministry resources to support this learning.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
