Student Accident Insurance

At Bluewater District School Board, the safety of our students is of utmost importance. Our policies and procedures are developed to minimize risk to students.

The Board's Strategic Plan includes the following Mission statement:

"To provide a quality education for every student in a safe, accepting, and caring environment."

However, accidents can and do happen, which can result in injuries involving dental, medical, and other expenses not covered under the provincial health care plan.

Bluewater District School Board does not provide accident insurance for students, but does make available a Student Accident Insurance Plan through Old Republic Canada.

The Old Republic Canada Insurance accident coverage is made available to parents, at low cost, to provide benefits for dental injuries and other accidents which may occur through participating in sports and other activities.

Dental injuries account for approximately 75% of all claims and many dental plans cover only 50% of the cost of repairs for accidental damage to teeth.

By participating in this important insurance, parents can ensure that the high cost of dental repairs following an accident will be covered.

All students participating in extra-curricular sports are encouraged to carry this insurance.
