Student Achievement

“What students believe about themselves and their opportunities, and what their peers and the adults in their lives believe about them, significantly influence the choices students make and the degree to which they achieve their goals. The education and career/life planning program policy for Ontario schools is based on three core beliefs, namely, that; all students can be successful; success comes in many forms; there are many pathways to success.” (Creating Pathways to Success, 2013, p. 9)

A progress report is issued for elementary students during the fall.  The provincial report card is completed:
  • 2 times a year in elementary schools
  • 2 times per semester in secondary schools
“Evidence of student achievement for evaluation is collected over time from three different sources – observations, conversations, and student products. Using multiple sources of evidence increases the reliability and validity of the evaluation of student learning.” (Growing Success, 2010, p. 39)

Ongoing communication about achievement is important through parent-teacher contact at interview time or any time throughout the year.
