Notice of Legislative Changes:
In accordance with the Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026 (Bill
101), which received Royal Assent on May 7, 2026, amendments to the
Education Act are now in effect. As a result, the position previously
titled Director of Education is now designated as the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) for the purposes of the Education Act and its associated
regulations. The CEO is deemed an ex-officio board member, except for the purposes of sections 169.1(1)(h), 218.1, and 218.2 of the Education Act.
The board will update references within its policies, administrative
procedures, procedural by-laws and official documentation to reflect this change over time.
Board policies, administrative procedures, and by-laws are subject to, and shall
be interpreted in accordance with, applicable legislation, including the
Education Act and its regulations. In the event of any inconsistency,
the requirements of the applicable legislation shall prevail.
Policy BP 1501-D "Board Operation"
Bluewater District School Board is a board of education established under the Education Act, with power to perform all the duties conferred or imposed upon a public school board by that or any other Act of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario. It shall operate in accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, other applicable legislation, the pertinent regulations of the Ministry of Education (Ontario), and the procedural by-laws developed for the operation of the board and its committees.
