Co-op/OYAP

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to earn high school Co-op credits while also earning hours towards an Apprenticeship trade certification.

The goal of OYAP is to expose students to careers in trades and technology and increase the high school graduation rate. With over 140 careers to choose from, the skilled trades sector is worth exploring.

An OYAP student is defined as a student who is receiving Cooperative Education credits for work experience in an Apprenticeship occupation. Students may or may not be formally registered as an apprentice while in secondary school.

To participate all students must complete the OYAP Application Form (if under the age of 18 a parent/guardian signature is required).

Students must:

  • have completed at least 16 high school credits prior to OYAP
  • be at least 16 years of age
  • have acceptable attendance records
  • be responsible for their own transportation to and from the placement work site, and
  • be enrolled in school full-time or part-time during the program

Students who would like to be formally registered as an apprentice must complete page 2 of the above form (if under the age of 18 a parent/guardian signature is required). Once completed, the form is submitted to the OYAP office by the Cooperative Education teacher.
