This information is being posted regarding O. Reg. 397/11, Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plans, which was developed under the Green Energy Act, 2009 and came into force January 1, 2012.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENT:

O. Reg. 397/11 requires all broader public sector (BPS) organizations, including school boards, hospitals, municipalities, universities, colleges, and municipal service boards (for water and sewage treatment and pumping operations), to:

  • Report on their annual energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in designated buildings/facilities by July 1 beginning in 2013; and
  • Develop and implement 5-year energy conservation and demand management plans (CDM) plans by July 1, 2014.
  • BPS organizations will be required to report on their 2011 data (for the 2011/2012 school fiscal year) by July 1, 2013.
