OSDSS Concert Band on Tour

The Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS) Music Department is holding a short series of concerts throughout Bluewater District School Board between November 18th and December 10th to promote music in schools, and prepare for their Winter Concert on December 12th.

OSDSS BandThe goal of the concerts is to inspire elementary students to learn more about the benefits of participating in an instrumental ensemble, and to provide a demonstration on appreciating and listening to live music.

The OSDSS instrumental students with their director, David Malito, are visiting Hillcrest Elementary, Keppel-Sarawak Elementary, East Ridge Community, Holland-Chatsworth Central, Hepworth Central Public, and Amabel-Sauble Community Schools.

OSDSS is one of many Bluewater schools offering a quality music program that provides an opportunity for students to expand their creative skills. Music programs are available in both elementary and secondary schools as many believe that learning a musical instrument, or how to sing, should not be optional. Many areas from around the world cherish music as a form of communication, and scholars believe it is intrinsically linked to cultural identity in ways of history and language.

Musical training also helps to develop language and reasoning, promote craftsmanship, and foster the desire within students to create good work.
