In 2023, Avion Campbell joined Bluewater District School Board as Human Rights and Equity Advisor (HREA) to proactively support the board in addressing and responding appropriately to human rights concerns and issues.

As the HREA, Avion has four main objectives:

1. Building and maintaining a culture of respect for human rights

This approach involves supporting the board in identifying and addressing systemically based human rights and equity issues and building the board’s capacity to ensure compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.

2. Supporting the resolution of human rights complaints

This approach includes oversight of the board’s internal human rights complaints procedure.

3. To create a comprehensive Equity Action Plan

This approach ensures that all students, regardless of their background, have equal access to resources, opportunities, and support within our institution and community.

4. To provide advice at a system level

This approach provides counsel and leads the implementation of policies and procedures, enacts the Ontario Human Rights Code, and implements relevant provisions of the Education Act and regulations.  The HREA creates and delivers professional development training for staff across the district.
