FSL Student Information

Communication is a valuable transferable skill enhanced by competency in additional languages.  Continuing in FSL programs has long-term benefits for a student’s academic, professional, and personal life, regardless of where their individual path takes them.

Opportunities Connected to FSL

Concours d’art oratoire

Concours d’art oratoire is a national public speaking competition for youth studying French in school.  Students enrolled in French programs across Canada have the opportunity to participate in competitions held at the school, regional, provincial/territorial, and national levels.  Further information is available at the Canadian Parents for French website at https://cpf.ca/en/activities-resources/for-youth/concours-dart-oratoire.

Diplôme des Études en Langue Française (DELF)

Grade 12 FSL students in Bluewater District School Board have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in French on the DELF.  The DELF is an internationally recognized diploma, awarded by the Ministry of Education of France, that indicates a student’s level of proficiency in FSL.  Further information about the DELF is available at the Destination DELF webpage at https://destinationdelf.ca.

Exchanges

Student exchanges provide benefits both to individual students, and to schools who host visiting students from other countries or other regions of Canada.

The individual student has opportunities to increase understanding of other cultures and languages, and is exposed to the maturing experience of looking after herself or himself for a period away from home.  He or she also takes the responsibility of supporting a visiting student, and helping that person deal with new and sometimes intimidating experiences.

The hosting schools benefit from the presence of a representative of a different language and culture, which should help our students to understand and appreciate global diversity.

Bluewater District School Board is committed to providing educational student exchanges for students wherever possible.
