Bluewater District School Board recognizes the value of communication as a transferable skill and the importance of additional language learning to support students as globally competent citizens.
 FSL in Bluewater District School Board aligns with the Ontario Curriculum Vision for French as a Second Language – Core, Extended, and Immersion, Grades 1 to 12:
                                  students will learn


Students will communicate and interact with growing confidence in French, one of Canada’s official languages, while developing the knowledge, skills, and perspectives they need to participate fully as citizens in Canada and in the world.

Indigenous languages of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples
; and home languages of newcomer multilingual learners are an essential component of all language learning and will be recognized in the additional language and intercultural learning of Bluewater FSL programs.  


Compelling Reasons to Study French as a Second Language

The knowledge of an additional language is an asset, and the positive outcomes for students in FSL programs include:
  • increased mental flexibility;
  • improved problem-solving, reasoning and creative thinking skills;
  • additional first language skills;
  • increased interest and skills to learn additional languages;
  • a better understanding of a variety of cultures within Canada and around the world;
  • a greater awareness of global issues, including those related to the environment and sustainability;
  • prepares students for their role as active and engaged citizens in today’s multilingual and multicultural Canada;
