As we transition into summer, I would like to spend a moment acknowledging everyone in our education system who contributed to the success, achievement, and well-being of Bluewater District School Board students and staff over the past 10 months.

In many ways, the majority of 2021 – 2022 was a return to pre-pandemic times in our schools and work sites.  Several COVID restrictions and practices that had defined our reality since March 2020 were eased or abandoned as in-person learning and working resumed.  Much to the delight of students and staff, activities such as sports, clubs, trips, and graduations also resurfaced.

While this significant shift back to our day-to-day routines was initially met with some apprehension and questions, there was also a collective sense of excitement and optimism across our board.  I cannot think of another time in recent memory when the important links between face-to-face social interaction, mental wellness, and academic growth has become more apparent.

That said, we still have some students who continued to learn remotely.  Thanks to the staff who supported them to ensure continuity of learning and success in a remote format.

Regardless of learning/working format, the past year saw our students, staff, families, trustees, volunteers, and partners continue to model safety, responsibility, teamwork, and respect for one another.  We thank you!  We are humbled and truly appreciative of everyone’s efforts and support during another unique and, at times, unpredictable school year.

As we move toward the more predictable in 2022 – 2023, we look forward to welcoming all our incoming students and families, as well as new staff and those changing roles within our system.  At the same time, it is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to those students and staff leaving Bluewater, including this year’s secondary and Adult Education graduates.  Goodbyes also extend to our retirees, whom we thank for their years of service and the lasting positive difference they have instilled in many lives throughout their careers.  We share the excitement for the future with the students and staff leaving Bluewater for other opportunities, and wish them boundless happiness and success.  To everyone else…. See you in September!

Have a safe, restful, and rewarding summer.
