Long Service and Retirement Recognition 2022
Posted on 06/27/2022
Bluewater District School Board retirees and those celebrating milestones for their length of service were honoured during a memorable evening at Stone Tree in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 23, 2022. The annual Long Service and Retirement Recognition Reception returned to its pre-COVID in-person format for the first time since 2019 as staff, trustees, and supporting family members came together to celebrate.
The evening began with social time, which was followed by a moment of reflection with Superintendent of Education Sheryl Elliott and then dinner for all the attendees. To introduce the recognition portion of the evening, Director of Education Lori Wilder brought words of welcome, while greetings on behalf of the board were delivered by Chair Jane Thomson. Presentations were then made to long service recipients in the categories of 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service, and to this year’s retirees.
In keeping with past tradition, two guest speakers addressed the recipients. Teacher Dennis Watson’s humour-infused speech targeted those being recognized for their length of service, and retired principal Carolynn Dyer’s heartfelt farewell message focused on the retirees.
