Grade 4 students participating in the Great GulpIn celebration of World Water Day on Monday, March 22, 2021, students and staff at Mildmay-Carrick Public School took part in the Great Gulp!

Thanks to EcoSchools leader and Great Gulp organizer, Mr. Rowen, every Thunderbolt, both young and a little older, raised their water bottles at 10:55 a.m. and counted down to a collective big gulp of clean, delicious water.  While doing this, students and staff were encouraged to think about how lucky we are to live in a place where our water is clean, safe, and readily accessible whenever we need and want it.  Thunderbolts also reflected on the impact of water on our lives, what would happen if we did not have enough water globally, and how communities in other parts of the world with less access to good water quality are affected.

This learning opportunity extended to some thinking around the ways in which each of us might waste this precious resource, followed by smart and doable solutions to stop this and ensure our water sources are uncontaminated, clean, and plentiful.

Thunderbolts know that water truly is life!
