During National Indigenous History Month in June, Bluewater District School Board is committed to expanding learning and understanding of the history, diverse cultures, experiences, achievements, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
We acknowledge that our school communities reside on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. The history and people of the Métis Nation of Ontario are also well represented in Bruce and Grey counties.
Crucial conversations continue to occur in our schools related to truth and reconciliation, and the individual roles of students and staff in supporting healing, justice, and equality. Many efforts are underway to “build student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect” thanks to the proactive leadership of staff in responding to this call to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
A highlight of National Indigenous History Month is
