SDSS Fundraises for Ukraine

Around the world, a wave of blue and yellow is signaling heartfelt support for the people of Ukraine. Recently at Saugeen District Senior School, students and staff came together following conversations about the gross injustices taking place to see what they could do to help. After briefly contemplating a toonie drive, the school community decided to aim much higher by establishing a seemingly impossible goal of raising $10,000 with only three short days left before March Break to get it done.
Donations began to arrive from many staff with students encouraged to contribute with matching offers. Families, friends, and neighbours also began to add to the drive, and by Friday, March 11, the school was just shy of its $10,000 goal. A final Friday afternoon push resulted in an incredible $11,600 final tally! With many helping hands, the donations were collected, counted, banked, and provided to the Red Cross Ukraine relief fund by the end of the day.
It is remarkable that the school was able to raise $11,600 to assist refugees who have fled Ukraine. With a federal matching program in place, the Saugeen District Senior School Royals community is helping to make a huge difference in the lives of many.
To everyone who helped, shared a post, or donated to the drive, the Royals extend a huge "thank you" and feel truly fortunate to live in such a generous community among people who know that caring for others is the right thing to do.
