Treaties Recognition Week 2022
Posted on 11/05/2022
November 6 to 12, 2022 is Treaties Recognition Week in Ontario. Declared by the provincial government in 2016 following the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, this annual occasion aims to strengthen awareness of treaties, our commitment to reconciliation, and relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
As part of our ongoing Indigenous teaching and learning in Bluewater District School Board, students and staff are focusing their efforts this week on the importance of treaties, including treaty rights, relationships, and our obligations. We reflect on the role and history of treaties in establishing agreements between Indigenous communities, governments, and Canadians, and their relevance today.
